Plant- based Burgers: Deal between Marfrig and Archer Daniels Midland
The giant beef producer Marfrig reached an agreement with Archer Daniels Midland (Adm) for the production and sale of vegetable protein-based products in Brazil. This decision follows the announcement of Tyson Foods (probably the biggest beef producer in U.S) about the launch of his own plant-based line.
Adm will be responsible for supplying the primary raw material used in the process, while Marfrig will produce, distribute and sell the products in the food service and retail channels.
The plant-based burgers production in Brazil will be launched in Marfrig’s unit of Várzea Grande, in Mato Grosso and part of the raw materials will be shipped from Adm’s plant in Campo Grande to Marfrig’s plant.
It is estimated that the first plant-based burgers under this partnership will reach the Brazilian market by the end of the year, and exports will follow.
“We want to give consumers the power of choice. They are the ones who decide,” said Eduardo Miron, CEO of Marfrig Global Foods. “The plant-based burgers will complement Marfrig’s product portfolio and be distributed through all our market channels.”
